It’s believed by many as a highly nutritious and perfect alternative for soy sauce because of the similarities in consistency and taste. It has a milder taste with a tiny kick of sweetness comparing to soy sauce. Some say that it tastes more like a tamari—another soy sauce substitute made from fermented soybeans. Because of its tangy and sweet taste, some people even find it delightful to use.

Liquid aminos are also made from unfermented and unheated soybeans. The process of producing liquid aminos involves hydrolyzing soy proteins. It’s processed without chemicals or any preservatives. However, it is costly compared to regular soy sauce products.

Free of chemicals

Traditional manufacturing of soy sauce involves the inclusion of preservatives and other types of an acid such as sodium benzoate. It’s a preservative that hinders the growth of fungi and the development of bacteria to lengthen the shelf of liquid aminos.

Like soy sauce, Braggs Liquid Aminos also have monosodium-glutamate. This is the result of hydrolyzing soybeans. MSGs induce the umami taste alongside other major tastes which include sweet, bitter, salty, and sour. The umami taste is due to proteins being broken down.

Studies are suggesting that umami may help a person satisfy his cravings. In another study, it shows that brain activity improves when overweight women consume umami. This is, in particular, the areas of the brain where the perception of foods is regulated.

However, these studies lack substantial proofs to conclusively identify umami as diet food. Most diet programs today restrict the consumption of MSGs.

Braggs Liquid Aminos are very flexible that you can throw them at any dish and use them as a dipping sauce.

The Drawback of Braggs Liquid Aminos

Claims regarding liquid aminos contain substantial amino acids aren’t conclusive and further studies are needed to prove it.

This may be the case; you can still enjoy this product whether you’re on a diet or maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Because it contains MSGs, make sure to consume them in moderation. It’s also not advisable for individuals on a low-sodium diet. This is because it contains a higher content of sodium comparing to soy sauce. A regular soy sauce has about 280 mg of sodium in a 5 ml serving, while you can get 320 mg of sodium for Liquid Aminos!

Consumption of a high amount of sodium can lead to adverse medical conditions. It may include complications such as high blood pressure and gastrointestinal cancer.

Health institutions recommend an intake of sodium should not exceed 2,300 mg daily to prevent any disorders.

Imagine, a three serving of liquid aminos can immediately give you 41% of the daily requirement which will make it challenging for the dieter to keep the specified guidelines.

Aside from glutamate and sodium, its aspartame content may affect the nervous system.

It may not be suitable for individuals with an allergic reaction to soy or any soy-based products. In this case, the most appropriate soy sauce substitute would be coconut aminos.

Also, Braggs Liquid Aminos is costly which is about three times more expensive than regular soy sauce. For this reason, many people wanting to live healthily continue to use soy sauce.

Braggs Liquid Aminos as soy sauce replacement

As mentioned above, soy sauce looks like a better option than Braggs Liquid Aminos but not entirely. Braggs Liquid Aminos is still a good substitute for soy sauce because it was naturally processed without the help of artificial colorings and preservatives. Traditional production of soy sauce includes added salt, additives, and fermented compounds.
